It also benefits from state-of-the-art facilities, including six newsrooms.

On a practical level, BA Journalism and Communications students will produce portfolios (including digital portfolios), practise journalistic writing skills across a number of platforms including online, broadcast, print and magazines, pitch ideas for new editorial products and businesses, and use a variety of software to produce graphic outputs, blogs, apps, and social media campaigns.

You are able to take a number of practical classes, including an employability module which requires students to undertake work placements and helps them to think more deeply about their employability and career goals.

Crucially, you will gain the ability to research, write and critique your own written projects according to highest academic standards, and utilise modern information technology in researching and presenting. You will develop your ability to work both independently and in groups.

Offered as a three-year degree but with the option to add a professional training year or integrated master’s, our BSc Biological Sciences degree gives students a huge amount of flexibility within the subject area.

Discover how we can advance our understanding of the real world through biological sciences. Learn how research is crucial to addressing the global challenges we all face. Join us to engage in a wide range of topics, including animal and plant biology, microbiology, ecology, genetics and evolution.

As a student in this vibrant field, you’ll study living organisms and how they interact with the environment. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to contemporary issues. And you’ll see how our research and understanding of biological sciences can further advance areas such as health and environmental conservation.

Our hands-on teaching approach aims to prepare you for your future, focusing on developing your research techniques. You’ll build your practical skills in real-world situations, both in the laboratory and in the field.

You can also tailor some aspects of your degree to suit your passions, combining classes from various subject areas within biosciences.  In your final year of study, you’ll have the chance to investigate a topic that you want to explore in more depth, supervised by supportive researchers who are experts in their field. This enables you to focus on innovative solutions to current day issues.

Our BSc Conservation of Objects in Museums and Archaeology will equip you with the skill set required to be a practising conservator. As a graduate of this programme, you will be able to develop, execute, report and record evidence-based strategies and actions for preserving historic and archaeological objects.

Working in our laboratories from day one, you will have access to a wide range of state-of-the-art conservation and scientific facilities. Students also benefit from the opportunity to spend 8 weeks working in a conservation lab abroad or in the UK.

We specialise in the conservation of historic and archaeological museum objects, using both preventive and interventive conservation procedures. All of our teaching is set against the cultural context of the objects undergoing treatment by students, which are genuine museum pieces. Working on these objects, you will consider the needs of owners, and current and future end users in designing your treatments.

This degree delivers a broad transferable skill set that encompasses discursive writing, imaging, practical work, communication and investigation using analytical instrumentation. Together these skills produce graduates who use evidence-based thought processes to deliver outcomes aimed at preserving our cultural heritage.

BSc International Relations and Politics students benefit from links to prominent political institutions including Westminster, the Senedd (Welsh Parliament), the European Union and NATO. Students also have the opportunity to take a class in conjunction with Westminster, which includes teaching by clerks of the House of Commons and study visits.

International Relations is a branch of Political Science that examines the role of states, international alliances, non-governmental organisations and multinational companies in an increasingly globalised world.

As part of this degree programme, you will have the opportunity to focus on global politics and world affairs as well as having the opportunity to attend a lecture series hosted by the University on International Relations & International Law, which has featured high profile speakers from institutions such as NATO and the UN Security Council.

Accredited by the British Psychological Society and offered as a three-year degree or with the option of an additional professional placement year, our BSc Psychology is ranked in the UK’s top ten psychology degrees.

Psychology is the systematic and scientific study of mind and behaviour. Psychologists study how we think, feel and act, both individually and as part of a social group. Psychology has a wide range of applications in the health and social services, in industry and commerce, and in education.

On this programme you will study psychology from a scientific standpoint with an emphasis on its social, cognitive and biological aspects. Embedded into an active research environment, this course will develop critical quantitative and qualitative skills, which will enable you to predict and explain human behaviour.

Our BSc Architectural Studies is accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architects Registration Board and is one of the top 5 schools of architecture in the UK. The course is taught in the University’s historic Bute Building, which is home to bespoke facilities, including hybrid studios, workshops, digital fabrication and a Living Lab.

Through a combination of design project work and taught modules, you’ll study the varied historical, theoretical, cultural, political, and geographical dimensions of architecture. You will consider how architecture is made, how it performs and how technological choices can support the wellbeing of present and future generations and care for the planet.

You’ll explore issues around professional and ethical responsibility to reflect on the role of the architect in society and in response to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Your design studies will continually involve imaginative engagement with real-world issues and global challenges such as climate change within localised contexts. The design studio is at the centre of our community, a place where you’ll mix with students, staff, and industry practitioners to address ethical, global, climatic and professional issues.
