If you want to progress into an agricultural management career, helping to find solutions to the world's most pressing issue of food production and land use, then this is the ideal course for you.

You don’t need to have an agricultural background; you simply need the passion and drive to work within a fast-changing industry and make that difference.

You'll learn how to build a productive, resilient and sustainable industry - whether as a farm manager, agronomist, economist, policymaker, researcher, scientist or consultant – career opportunities are diverse.

The extensive industry experience of lecturers, an on-campus commercial farm that supplies Müller, AVP, and RJ Kerr, as well as our £2 million Agri-Tech Centre, will prepare you to make that positive impact on the future.

You'll have access to 400 hectares of commercial farmland, real-world business briefs and industry placements. You’ll benefit from up to 300 hours working and applying your knowledge as part of your degree. This includes a supported work placement in the first year of study and periods of industry engagement in years two and three that count as credits towards your degree meaning you'll graduate ready for employment.

Immerse yourself in the theory and practical application of zoology, for a fulfilling career conserving the biodiversity of our planet and protecting animal species across the globe.

You’ll explore how animals evolve, interact and function, how human activity affects animal populations, how zoos contribute to conservation, and much more. The field course module allows you to see the impact of conservation first-hand, and you get to choose whether you do this in either South Africa, Devon, or more locally, around Gloucestershire.

You’ll learn from experienced animal scientists, conservationists and industry practitioners to develop field and laboratory skills which are in great demand by employers. You’ll have the option to spend a year in industry, either in the UK or overseas, to gain additional experience. You'll also be able to undertake a flexible professional study experience in your second year.

Our facilities provide fantastic opportunities to develop real-life experience. These include a range of laboratories, a 70-species Animal Collection, and commercial animal therapy centres. Our 360-hectare estate is ideal for learning a range of survey techniques and for studying British wildlife.

Have you ever wondered why the bond between humans and animals is so special, and so essential? Be part of a degree dedicated to exploring this fascinating connection.

Dive into the science behind the human-animal relationship and its role in therapy, conservation, farming, and more. Learn how to enrich animal lives while shaping a better future for both humans and animals alike. You’ll explore this relationship and learn how to manage, protect and promote our mutual bond to enhance people’s lives, animal welfare and the environment. Our 70-species Animal Collection will provide opportunities to interact with different animals and observe this relationship first-hand.

You’ll explore the human-animal bond in terms of human psychology, and consider the complexities of our interactions with animals; such as their roles as resources or in enhancing our learning experiences and wellbeing. You’ll study the fundamentals in animal health, behaviour and welfare, to understand the needs of animals.

The human-animal bond is key to success in so many industries, and so your career options are excitingly diverse. Graduates can confidently apply their knowledge of psychology, animal behaviour, and anthrozoology to the ethical and sustainable practice of interactions between humans and animals from small scale practical management through to wider impacts on both people and animals within society.

Passionate about animal biology and curious about health and disease? This degree is your gateway to an impactful career in veterinary science or the wider animal health industry.

Dive into subjects like biochemistry, parasitology, and microbiology, while discovering how different sectors of the veterinary world work together to improve animal health and welfare. Whether you’re aiming for veterinary medicine or a role in animal management or research, you’ll graduate with the expertise to shape the future of animal care. Engage with subject experts, including practising veterinary professionals, within our team at Hartpury and visiting external speakers.

Work with a range of species in our on-site animal collection, commercial farm and large equine centre to experience handling and working with animals. These experiences will be part of your course and there is also opportunity for you to select additional external experience as part of our modules.

Gain practical experiences and apply theory to practice as you get hands on in our dissection, science and microbiology laboratories, learning more about health assessment and management in a range of species. Investigate notifiable and zoonotic diseases, and understand more about how laboratory diagnostic tests work alongside other diagnostic methods.

If you’re passionate about horses and science and want to learn more about how these incredible animals work, then this is the course for you.

During your degree, you'll study the health and functioning of the horse, including topics such as nutrition, breeding, and veterinary health. Throughout additional options you can further tailor your learning to your interests and career pathways.

Combining theory with practice on this applied science degree, you’ll benefit from world-class facilities including our Equine Therapy Centre, industry-standard science labs and 230 horses on campus, while you study how the horse’s body works, developing expertise in exercise anatomy and physiology and the impact that exercise has on the horse. You'll hear from leading industry and research experts and strengthen your learning through practical application, enabling you to develop in-depth knowledge and skills. You'll also have the opportunity to study a semester of your degree overseas or complete a year in industry to gain valuable industry experience.

Graduate as a qualified sports therapist using our dedicated sports therapy clinic, working with the general population and athletes with support from industry experienced staff. The course is accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists, so you can be confident you’ll graduate ready for your career.

You’ll undertake a minimum of 250 placement hours during the course, giving you the skills and experience that employers are looking for. You’ll benefit from contextualised teaching and learning, so you understand the realities of day-to-day practice. Focus on practical and professional skills, as well as the wider academic knowledge and theory underpinning the practice.

Learn from industry professionals, as you gain the practical hands-on skills and theoretical knowledge you need in sports therapy, medicine, exercise, science and research. Build your patient examination and assessment abilities, injury management, and rehabilitation plans in sport, health, and exercise settings. Experience our sports performance campus to learn where you'll practice pitch-side first aid, work in our student-led sports injury clinic and complete a valuable final year external placement. Christine A Kelly, College Counselor

I've worked with Gary and Lydia for several years, and have found their knowledge, and expertise invaluable as I navigate the international university admission process from the USA.  I admire their sincere drive to help students find and enter the university of their choice and appreciate their consistent availability to provide that expertise in a friendly, easy to understand manner.  I'm very excited about this website!

Joanna C. Tudge, University Counselor

I have had the pleasure of working with Gary and Lydia for over ten years and they have been a tremendous resource for myself and our students and families who are interested in applying to the UK.  Not only have they been amazing advocates for their own institutions, but they have a broad and detailed knowledge of universities and programmes across the UK and have frequently shared their network of contacts with me to help students find the perfect fit.  I cannot praise them enough.

Jamie M Rueger, College Counselor

I have not only had the opportunity to work with Gary and Lydia, but also have been able to meet them personally. They are very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding students, parents and counselors through the process of applying through UCAS. I knew next to nothing about directing students through this process and their expertise has been invaluable to me.

Letitia Peterson, Director of College Counselling

As a college counselor in the U.S., I often need some details about the UCAS process for my students who are applying to universities in the UK. Lydia and Gary are very well-informed and responsive if I have any questions or need direction to the appropriate resources. Their combined years of experience with applicants from the U.S. is important, since many families here are unfamiliar with UCAS.  On a personal level, it is a pleasure to work with both of them, and I highly recommend their services.

Claire Shepro, College Counselor

Gary and Lydia have been a great resource for both me and my students. They are extremely knowledgeable not only about UK admissions, but about how to "translate" the process so it makes sense to American applicants! My students who have worked with them have really appreciated the time and care they have taken to respond to their inquiries.

Sherrie Tasnady, Guidance Counselor

Both Gary and Lydia understand the questions that international students have and are able to balance their knowledge with the human touch. Their experience of hosting college counselors in the UK make them brilliant guides through the university search and application process and they have the unique ability to look beyond the buildings and programs of study to bring to life the many dimensions of university life.  This site will provide all you need to navigate the promising world of the UK educational landscape.

Danny Reynolds, Associate Head for External Relations

I have worked with Gary and Lydia for several years assisting our families in Miami to understand the application process to U.K. universities. Applying via UCAS is so different than applying via the Common Application, especially with the difference in writing the personal statement, but their guidance has alleviated the stressful application process for my students. Anything I was unsure about as a counselor, a quick email to Gary or Lydia would answer my questions. Their guidance has helped me feel more confident about recommending UK universities to my students. Our applications to the U.K. have increased each year.

Tiffani Hooper - Co-Director of College Counseling

Gary and Lydia have years of experience explaining the U.K. university and application system to American students. They are informative, relatable, and an invaluable resource to students applying to universities in U.K. I value them as colleagues and respect their professional expertise.
